Summer is around the corner! My bathing suit is ready to go and waiting to be shown off. I too can’t wait. After all, I’ve been eating healthy, I said “no” to alcohol and sugars, I worked out daily ever since my bathing suit got put away last summer, so I.Am.READY!
… No, not quite.
In August of last year, I went to see a Cardiologist and was told that I was out of shape.
What do you mean, “out of shape”?
18 of the past 33 months, I spent being pregnant, I pushed out two children, one of them an almost 11-pounder, and I bounced back pretty quickly to fit back into my pre-pregnancy skinny jeans! The label “out of shape” didn’t sit well with me and as a former tennis player, that comment stung. However, it did kick my tushy into gear. I contacted Savanas Xavier, the trainer of a dear friend of ours. When he said “I will have your Cardiologist sing a different tune within a month”, I knew he meant business.
I’ve been training with Savanas once a week since August. Once you have kids, you know that in order for one parent to do anything for themselves outside the house, the other parent needs to be available to watch the kids. (Because I am not taking my children to the gym with me.) Hiring a baby sitter, so Mama can go work out, goes a bit far for me, so once a week, I get out to (figuratively) get my butt kicked. And I’m LOVIN’ it!!
But…one training session per week only gets you to a certain point. Add to that my passion for cooking (I am not willing to alter my diet too much – Yep, I’m stubborn) and the tummy could use some “final firming”.
Together with Savanas I put together an ab workout that will aid in the firming and toning process of the aforementioned tummy. The whole routine takes around 7 minutes (provided you don’t rest more than the suggested time in between). Anyone can take 7 minutes out of their day, lie down on the carpet / a bath mat / yoga mat and do these exercises. That’s 7 minutes less on Facebook, or watching something on TV or YouTube.
That doesn’t sound too crazy and for the sake of firmer abs: I’m in!!
7 minutes, 1 month. That is my challenge. And, I invite you to join me.
Ab Workout Challenge
Starting Date: Tuesday May 1, 2012.
Duration: 1 month.
Goal: firmer abs, preferably losing the softness around the muscles.
On Tuesday morning (May 1) I will post the ab workout routine that I will be doing daily. I will start it that day. If you feel like joining me on “the journey to firmer abs”, I would love the company. One thing I will say though: I WILL complete this. (I’m stubborn like that as well.)
Over the course of the next month, I will write brief posts on behalf of both myself and my tummy. The comment section will be available to receive feedback and status updates from you and your abs.
Now, I’m not going to measure or weigh myself, etc. I will determine the success simply by how my pants fit and how my abs feel. I will continue to eat and drink normally, enjoying my foods without overdoing it.
Looking forward to the challenge (and to firmer abs).
Until next time,
Savor Food, savor family, savor life.

I am very excited about this “Journey to Firmer Abs” and would love to have people join me on this Ab Workout Challenge Let me know if you’re in!

My name is Marieke. I live in Los Angeles with my 5 boys: my husband, 2 toddler boys and 2 Australian Shepherds. The cat feels she’s the Queen, but she’s got delusions of grandeur. The kitchen is my haven and the occasional glass of “Mommy Juice” keeps me sane in the midst of all the testosterone around here.
Yes, I’m in! Will check back on Tuesday.
Yay!!
I’m in! Let’s do it!
Awesome!
I’m scared, but intrigued. Haha Hesitant, but what the heck! I’m in!
Yay Mari! Here’s to firming the tummy!!

Rachelle! Awesome you’re joining. The more people join, the more fun it is for everyone. No need to be scared. 7 minutes ain’t that long…
I’m a lil older than some of you joining but what the heck I will try it if it kills me and if I die doing it at least I will look hot in heaven!
Grace,
How awesome that you’re taking on the challenge! I think you’ll be just fine.
Cannot wait to kick this off!! Perfect timing, too!! Thanks, in advance!!
Glad the timing works out for ya
Looking forward to the challenge and I am delighted to see that there is a good group of people joining me. So fun! Virtually working out together, who’d have thought?
Well, as tomorrow is my due date, I’m in no position to start this now (though I do hope to be losing my enormous belly soon!) — but I love the idea of a virtual workout group and a 7-minute-a-day, one-month challenge. So manageable! I’ll be cheering for everyone!
Shelley, Let’s do this: you cheer for us until you go into labor. Then, we’ll cheer for you, while we crunch your abs (and maybe I’ll do a few extra, just for you
Ik wil ook meedoen!
Gaaf Laura! Leuk dat je het doet.
