Beets – Little Girls Grow Up

Every Saturday morning I pick up the crate with my weekly delivery of organic (and locally grown) fruits and vegetables.  We started doing this in August and we’re loving it!  I mean, supporting your local farmers, organic fruit and veggies, hurrah!  As noble as the thought is, it certainly comes hand in hand with some challenges.  You see, the detail is that you don’t get to pick what fruits and vegetables you want.  You get what’s in season.  Don’t get me wrong, it is awesome that my produce hasn’t spent half of its lifetime in transit to get from where ever it was grown to my table.  The challenge, however, is that I sometimes discover vegetables in my much beloved-crate that I either really do not like, or even more fascinating, I had never heard of.  I’ve had my share of both of those situations now.

Beets are one of those veggies that I never liked.  My parents will attest that it was more than a “challenge” to get me to eat them when I was younger.  I don’t remember how they went about that – if bribery was involved, or what, but I do now I never liked them.

And here we are…surprise, surprise.
